Ok, so this is it! I’m writing a blog! It’s hard to think that anyone else in the world would choose to read this but here we are, if you’re new – HELLO!
I’ll start off by introducing myself and why I’ve decided to do this. I’m an equine vet and have been graduated since 2018. I’ve been enjoying the variety of life (having worked in New Zealand, Inverness and now Northumberland) since I left University and have hopped happily around the world as much as I’ve been able. I’ve been in my current job for nearly a year and a half, and have just started a certificate to become an Advanced Practitioner in Equine Practice. With all this covid- and academia-induced ‘settling down’, I’ve been wanting to find a creative outlet for myself that doesn’t necessarily have to be anything to do with veterinary life. I love being able to take my work clothes off on Friday and finally feel stylish on the weekend, or getting down and dirty to a bit of urban gardening – and I want to talk about it! There are so many aspects of me that make me that don’t involve being a vet at all, and I want to feel more comfortable with this and make it feel more normal within the industry. My other hobbies also include hiking (wherever I can find a hill), collecting house plants, playing lacrosse, and going for brunch (YES it can be a hobby!).

That being said, I think this blog will dunk in and out of veterinary life. I do get to do some pretty cool stuff at work and I’d love to share interesting aspects of my job. As well as this, there are lots of avenues I’d like to explore – such as how we can make the veterinary industry more sustainable and improving mental health in the profession! I’ve recently signed up for being my workplace ‘Wellbeing Champion’. At the moment I don’t feel very qualified but hopefully with the mental health training I’m due to receive, I will be in a better place to help out colleagues and promote a happy and healthy environment for my colleagues to excel in. I’m excited to see what happens with the role, so I will keep you posted on this too.
I think that’s all for now! Thanks for reading and see you soon x
